Viv has kindly agreed to drive the Great Ocean Road for us. She asked for suggestions for what we would like to do and this was one of them. So we set off having dropped Luther off at his doggie hotel for a couple of days, and Viv then had to battle her way through the Melbourne traffic as the Great Ocean Road is back on the other side of Melbourne! Oops!

Now, everyone who has ever been to Australia tells you what an enormous country it is so we know that, but it is brought home to you as you are following a map, which of course I habitually do, and you have been driving for 2 hours and have only moved along the map a couple of inches! Look at the whole map of Australia and there is confirmation if ever you needed it, that it would take an awful long time to drive the whole way across, which of course we are not!

We stopped for coffee in Geelong, less than 2 inches from where we had started and after 2 hours on the road!

Coffee stop on the pier!

Then onto Torquay for lunch which is almost the start of the Great Ocean Road. Already we are seeing some stunning coastline scenery, mainly wide sweeping bays and golden sands. Unlike Port Douglas the beaches and sea are safe from crocs and stingers! As far as we know there is nothing else we should be looking out for!

The beach at Torquay.

Viv then carried on driving whilst we looked out of the car windows. Our only other stop was at a place called Urquharts Bluff Beach. Not only a beautiful sandy beach but also a bit of surf and at least 50 youngsters body boarding and having a fabulous time. We assume they were there as part of a school group as there were adults and a big bus parked up!

And so onto tonight’s accommodation at Apollo Bay, which Viv has organised. Wow! Amazing views from the picture windows, and lovely accommodation too. We have had lovely weather again today, but tomorrow’s forecast is not so good, and it is now raining and the wind has got up so I’m glad we made the most of the views this evening!

Not sure who that strange person on the drive is though!
