Time for another decent walk, but where to today? The weather forecast looked just about ok, I needed to get some peat free compost from Notcutts and refill the Ecover washing up liquid at Poppies Pantry so Woodbridge seemed to be a good option.

Shopping done, we arrived at Sutton Hoo just after it opened and predictably headed straight for the coffee shop! The National Trust always do good coffee, and we have a loyalty card!! Coffee and cheese scone taken on board we headed off for a walk, maps and compass in daypack! To start with we followed one of the marked paths at Sutton Hoo and this took us along the side of a field that was covered in a tiny pink flower which gave the field a pink hue. It was very pretty!

Is it Herb Robert?

We continued on into the woodland and to my very pleasant surprise there were carpets of bluebells. It was so pretty, and fragrant. And a reminder that there are things worth being in the UK for!!

The route took us through the wood and then down into the valley and followed the side of the river Deben for a while before turning inland and up Ferry Cliff. Yes there are inland cliffs in Suffolk. Not that high but short and steep! Across a field, on the footpath (no navigation issues this week!) to a track where we sheltered under a tree whilst a rogue shower passed by. We followed the footpath and circled round and back to Sutton Hoo where we walked around the burial mounds and tried to work out how and why the Vikings would have managed to haul a burial ship up from the river. Not an easy task!

By the time we got back it was lunch time so a snack at the cafe finished our trip out very nicely. No incidents with navigation today but at least we were better prepared 😁
